Jason asked:

I own several domain names and I know alot of people park their domain and try to collect ad revenue off of it. There are a couple of domains I own that I know are worth alot because of the rights to the books and a movie company buying the rights to the film series has taken place. Tunnels is a book series that is due out in January 2008 in the US and already released in the UK. It is being billed as the next Harry Potter, I own the domains tunnelsbook.com and tunnelsmovie.com. How can I market them to sell them to someone who wants to develop them to cash in?

I hope you understand this.

My e-mail address is me94@optonline.net if you’d like to contact me.

I would like to create a website and host my own domain. In other words, I would like to publish my own website with out using a website hosting provider.

What I want to know is:

How did Google get their web-page on the internet without paying a monthly/yearly fee to keep it running?
I want to know how domains get their website on the internet without using a host. For example, www.GoDaddy.com hosts peoples’ websites. I want to know how GoDaddy got their website on the internet.
I don’t want to know how people get their websites on Google search, I want to know how an individual website got their information to be accessed by everyone. How did Yahoo! become a website?

rival6544 asked:

I started my own website a while ago, but it’s hosted by Comcast, which means that ‘Comcast.net’ is at the end of my web address, which looks really unprofessional. I know you can pay $10 a year for Google to host your website with your own personal domain name, but I’d rather not pay.

From my research, I’ve only figured out how to pay for my own personal web address.

So is it possible to have your own personal domain name if you host from a small server on your own computer? If so, how (how to set the domain name, not how to host a server)? And if not, please explain how domain names work, as I’ve found out that I really don’t understand them.
I understand now that domain names and the server are seperate, but why do you have to pay for a domain name?

I’m probably going to pay Google or another company now , I’m just curious about domain names.
